We have removed one side from the cot of our toddler Little Miss to create a pseudo bed as the first step to a proper full blown bed.
She was terrible excited as she climbed into her new big girl bed and drifted off to sleep. Then about three hours later I heard it - the thud of toddler on too floor boards.
There wasn’t a yelp or cry of any sort, just a dull thud as she hit the ground and continued sleeping. After I had stopped giggling to myself - let’s be honest, someone falling out of bed is just plain funny - I snuck into her bedroom and gently lifted her still sleeping body and placed her back in bed. There was not even a slight lull in her gentle snoring.
About 2 hours later there was again the dull thud of toddler against floor board followed by a single little whimper. This time I just let her go and sleep on the floor until it was time for me to go to bed also when I again lifted her back into her new bed.
About 3am there was another thump and little cry from the next room as for the third and what turned out to be final time Little Miss made the short trip between bed and floorboards.
Now while the constant rolling out of bed of toddler onto floor boards while Dad listens in the distance is highly entertaining, it is not the point of this little post.
What struck me instead is just how deep a sleep a toddler gets into. Here I am constantly afraid to play PS3 or Wii games at anything but the softest of levels all the while she can slam dance head first against the hardwood without even so much as a stir.
I have therefore decided that I will no longer be a slave to the rule of quiet that has descended on our household for the last two and a half years and will instead from now on stomp around as much as I like.
At least that is what I say now until such time as my wife tells me otherwise.
