I have some terrible news for all my fellow parents out there - your kids just aren’t that special.
Little Johnny will never make it to the Olympics, he will be lucky to be co-ordinated enough to work the remote control to actually watch the Olympics.
Little Janey isn’t a talented musician / actress / dancer - apart from drunken karaoke while she is spending your money pretending to study a university, she will never be a superstar.
And no toddler out there is on the verge of curing cancer - despite what their doting parents may think.
That is just the cold hard reality of life for 99.9999999999999% of all of our children, so why is there this obsession with the fact that all our kids ave to grow up to be superstars.
Hell, there are even people out there will to charge you a reasonable fee to pander to your believe that it is not that your kid is normal, just that no one has yet brought out their inner wondrousness. And if you are one of those convinced that your toddler is a working talking as yet undiscovered marvel then these people will happily help you.
As for me, this dad will just be happy if he manages not to screw his children up so much by heaping pressure on them to be wonderful that they have a chance of being happy.

Then again that is a given as my kids ARE special ;-p
