The big day arrives

After months of anticipation - mainly on my behalf - we are off to see the Banana’s in Pyjamas and Postman Pat in concert tomorrow. I am pretty excited about it all, and not just because I have the day off work!

It is going to be a busy schedule over the next couple of months, we have a Wiggles concert, we have a Hi-5 concert, we have a Christmas extravaganza or two to attend. Each promises to be bigger and better that the previous one with a toddlers running everywhere and Little Miss spinning around and around.

Little Miss has already picked out her dress for tomorrow - a lovely new Dora the Explorer one, so all is in readiness. Of course we won’t leave on time which will mean that there will be tension in the car (who has a children’s concert at 9:30am anyway?) as we rush to get there. Of course I have a 9:00am phone hook up which I will be taking on the mobile while driving (hands free of course), and we are meant to be meeting the in-laws at the door. Damn, now I just took the gloss of the whole day and it hasn’t even started yet.

Anyway, I was telling someone about our upcoming concert season and they told me that we were spoiling Little Miss. You know what, they are probably right, and I sure as hell don’t care if we are. We are teaching manners, compassion, we are ensuring she doesn’t have a sense of entitlement and that she doesn’t always get everything she wants (and she certainly won’t get it by whining). So while we may be taking her to lots of concerts and taking her lots of places, I don’t think we are spoiling her because that is more about attitude and not material things in my mind.

Of course, I WAS spoiled, so what would I know ;)

I’ve never heard of Banana’s in Pyjamas and Postman Pat but hope you guys had a great time at the concert.

A few years back my wife and I had bought tickets to a Wiggles concert. Just before the concert, my wife had to travel out of town and I was left taking both of my boys to see Wiggles solo. It was an interesting experience and our younger son was a little confused as to why the Wiggles were not in the TV.

    Have fun!
I am sure that there’ll also be lots to talk about with Little Miss after that. Sharing these special moments does wonders to the relationship with your child.

Btw, I think we should give our kids treats so that they will not be starved for the things they like. It’s worthwhile raising a happy child, not just well behaved and disciplined. Of course, I was a happy child. :)
