come here …. now go away

Little Miss the toddler made my heart jump today and swell with all kinds of love and good feelings. I was in the kitchen putting on the dinner (a lovely roast - thanks for asking). When I heard Little Miss start screaming for Daddy to come back to the lounge room.

‘Daddy come here….. Daddy in the lounge room ….. Daddy you have to stay with me!!!!! ….’ I thought that she had twigged that it was Sunday afternoon and the time was limited between now and when I head off to work on Monday morning, barely to be sighted between then and next Saturday morning.

So while placating her I rushed to get the roast on then went and sat in my lounge chair as instructed. Sipping on my coffee and pretending to really care about Dora the Explorer and the Chocolate Tree or whatever Dora happened to be on. I was in such a good move that I even joined in the ‘We did it!’ dance at the end (although I didn’t go as far as to have a fairy costume on like my daughter).

Then when it ended Little Miss asked to watch it again, and who was I to say no? How could I deny my darling daughter such a joyous experience and one she was so keen to share with her dear old dad?

So I started it back at the beginning and sit back to enjoy the entire episode with my loving and smitten daughter.

But no sooner had the opening titles begun to roll than my daughter turned to me, stared at me with the cold hard eyes of a killer and calmly said, ‘Daddy go away now, get back into the kitchen and fix my lunch!!!’

Turns out she doesn’t love me at all, she just knew Dora was about to finish and needed to be restarted…..

Why, that almost sounds like manipulation!
She will get far, this one!

At least mine needs me when she needs to poop…. No, wait; I am suddenly not sure which manipulation is worse now…

Lol, that is a great story and I can just imagine her dancing around in her fairy costume and telling you to go fix her lunch! Priceless.

Just earlier today Micah was doing his pretend play, holding an intense conversation with I-don’t-know-who/what. It caught my attention for just a second before he realised I was staring at him and he told me, “Mommy, you go way. Go there…”

    ?? (Shrugging my shoulders.)

  4. […] Daddy has discovered that his young daughter has already learned the art of manipulation. Don’t ever think that kids are not extremely intelligent as they know how to work people to […]

  5. Isn’t it amazing how we all find the manipulation of us by our kids to be the cutest thing in the world. I wonder if we will all feel the same way when they turn into teenagers and are doing the same thing? …. :0
