Isn’t conjunctivitis just the yuckiest looking of the toddler ailments? Little Miss currently has it and it is horribly gross. I am used to runny noses, dirty nappies, even the odd toddler vomit, but this is just yucky.
Of course being daddy means never showing your repulsion at your toddlers appearance. You constantly have to gaze into those gunky eyes and never blink no matter how much your stomach turns.
It does remind me of just how blind parental love is. No matter what flaws your children may have you see nothing but the best in them, bordering on perfection.
If they are uncoordinated and can’t so much as kick a ball, you wonder at their determination and never give up attitude to things.
If they are a bit slow in picking up speech, then it is not a learning problem, but an adorable affectation in the Cindy Brady lisp vein.
Their tantrums aren’t a sign that they are horrible little vermin, but merely an expression of their frustrations in trying to come to grips with the world and their place in it.
And this my friends is how it should be, and should remain. Don’t go looking for the flaws, but look for the best in your kids and they may just surprise you and meet these expectations on day!
And let’s be honest, no matter what our own flaws are, no matter how far from perfect we are in ourselves as both people and parents, their love for us is universal and limitless.
This is why no matter how icky Little Miss’ eye becomes I will go home tonight, scoop her up, give her a big hug and try not to flinch as she goes to rub her grubby infected little fingers all over my face.

To know what kind of work pressure you are under and still make time for this post about Little Miss, or simply to further enrich your blog, or to be the absorbent / surface to wipe her fingers-of-infectants after a day’s work in politics, already goes to show your love for her / them.
Kudos!
(I just realised that was all one sentence!)
Good ole Daddy!
Cheers!
Poor Little Miss. I hope she gets rid of the gunky eyes before she passes it on to other family members.
Jlow - I thought I could string together a stream of consciousness sentence seemed to go on for ever without need for a full stop. But I think I have met a man with as much talent for it as myself - I tip my hat to a fellow traveler in the religion of typing first and editing later (if at all)
Everyone, thanks for the well wishes. The conjunctivitis crisis has now been overcome and we await with great anticipation for the next little repulsive illness to be tackled.
