You know you have been putting in long days and working hard at the expense of your family when you come home from early one day and your toddler looks are you and says, ‘Oh, Daddy you are home - what’s wrong?’, instead of something with a bit of enthusiasm involved.
But that is about to become the past. After six weeks of a Federal election campaign, and the 6 months of ‘faux campaign’ prior to that on Saturday it all came to an end. Finally that part of my life and it’s time sucking capacity has come to an end. Now I can focus on things that are more entertaining and fun - like Little Miss and Usurper.
Of course with all such things timing is everything and the timing at the moment is pretty poor, the baby, the toddler and Wife are all sick with various viruses and tonsillitis at the moment. As for me I can feel a slight tickle in the throat and some blocked ears so it is my turn next.
But who cares? I have tomorrow off work and apart from root canal for a tooth that broke a month ago that I haven’t been able to find time to get fixed I have nothing on the agenda but to spend time with the family. Then if I get sick on top of that I don’t really care - to me it will just be an excuse to take an extra couple of days off work.
Then before I know it it will be Christmas, which means more time off with the kids. Then a family holiday in February to the beach for a week or something.
The next 3 months is looking pretty good and relaxed I must say. If the election had of gone a different way I would have been in for months of hell, but as far I my working life is concerned it couldn’t have gone better.
Now I will even have time to post to this blog every single day (I promise). Read all those blogs I have been missing out on for the last few weeks. If all goes well I may even respond to all my emails, maybe even talk to my parents at some stage!
But most of all I am looking forward to my being at home being a cause for fun and giggles for my little girls as opposed to todays reaction in which my appearance home meant something had obviously gone wrong. Won’t that be something special?

Welcome home, Daddy!
We *all* missed you!
Enjoy your time together.
Daddy-time is real precious time.
Hug your family more!
