Well what a wild New Years Eve I have just survived the highlights of which were:
Going to a NYE party that started before the sun went down.
Cleaning poo out of a potty in the back yard, in the dark, while trying to remain out of smell range of the rest of the party goers.
Trying to stop the toddler Little Miss from eating nothing but finger foods and cheese - I almost succeeded.
Watching 10 toddlers running around wearing various versions of glow stick jewelry
The crescendo of the ‘party’ being the waving of sparklers at 9:00pm
Arriving home from the party at 9:15pm
Falling asleep on the bed with the toddler at 9:30pm
Waking up again at 11:45pm just in time to take out the garbage bins and catching a glimpse of the fire works over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Being back in my own bed by 12:15am
I wonder what the cool kids got up to?

Well, we’ve been back in Kuala Lumpur since Boxing Day, and incidentally my sister and family were also in town from Singapore.
Thus, with all the cousins to play with at my mum’s, Caitlin was keeping herself busy terrorising them. I had actually fallen asleep waiting for her; and only at 1030-ish.
I had wanted to show her the fireworks from the street party downtown, and so my internal clock woke me up at around 11:45, when I rushed her to the window hoping to catch a glimpse.
We did, but at only halfway through it, Caitlin was exclaiming that she wants to retire already.. even in bed we could still hear the distant popping.. Either she is not as excited to see fireworks now, or that she really was knocked out.
Is that cool enough? I guess not really….
At least you got a glimpse of the fireworks, I was in bed at 11:45pm! Oh well. Happy New Year!
I think the moral of the story for all us parents is that NYE will never be a rocking good time again.
And just think in a few short years we can be sitting at home waiting to see just what state our kids are in when they finally get home from their NYE parties. I just hope my kids are smarter than I was about such things.
NYE… We got back from Melbourne on 30th Dec, so we were still in Aussie time zone, 3 hours ahead. It’s great for getting my boys to bes early, so we were all in bed, the boys off to dreamland and me half awake listening to the popping of fireworks in some distance away.
have a great 2008.
Sigh….New Year will consist on fireworks and warm cocoa/wine when our kids are big enough to enjoy it. Then maybe we will be too old to even think of making the walk to the most happening New Year celebration!
Sounds like a fun party, the party we went to had the kids all asleep upstairs by 8:30 pm and the adults playing games and drinking until 3 am. It was fun until we realized that our children would awake at 6 am and we would have get through New Years Day hungover and with little sleep.
I wish I had thought of drinking on NYE - actually I am thinking of taking up drinking during the day just for the heck of it!
