Toddler has weird musical tastes

I have come to the conclusion that Little Miss is developing weirder and weirder musical tastes as she gets older - and I cite the following examples to back up my case:

She spent an hour listening to Wife’s preggo “chick getting ready for birthing relaxation cd” (and yes I am pretty sure that is what it is actually called) for an hour the other day. It is a CD that wife had that she listened too once and half way through her water broke. It is basically a Betty White sound alike spouting meaning platitudes over hippy music. I know because I had to listen to is as well. Actually we not only had to listen to it, we had to dance to it as well. Let’s just say interpretive dance is not my forte.

Currently her favorite cd is no longer Hi-5 or the Wiggles, but Housework Songs II which we have to dance too after her bath each night. Why is it that even 30 years later Abba’s Dancing Queen is still a hit with toddlers?

Perhaps more disturbing a question is why is Britney Spears “I’m a slave for you” so popular then there is Transvision Vamps ‘I want your love’ - surely these are not good songs for an impressionable young girl. I must have a word to Wife about that.

I am just waiting for the day she discovers all my old punk records that are currently gathering dust on the book shelves. She always likes the Ramones (or ‘moans’ as she calls them much to Wife’s amusement, or as Daddy’s Wiggles at other times.) She loves both the Dead Kennedy’s and Sex Pistols songs on Guitar Hero III as well. So it could get interesting in the next couple of years.

I still don’t know what I think will be worse, if she gets into manufactured pop garbage, or anti-social so called independent crap. I guess it doesn’t really matter because with any luck I will be deaf by then.

Before I forget I’ve got to give the quote of the day:

Toddlerdaddy: Sweetie, time to get out of the bath now.

Little Miss: oh blah blah blah to you too daddy.

Lol! I can’t get over your quote of the day!!

Wierd music taste? Well, apart from some nursery rhymes, Micah loves the Crazy Frog, the Transformers’ theme song and s string of songs from cartoon movies. Some I don’t even know the titles…

Guess it’s what we expose them to.

Lately we have gotten our kids away from Veggie Tales (Thank God) and instead they are asking for Switchfoot. I should have started piping adult music into their rooms long ago.

Record a CD of musical instructions and instructions and instructions and play them over and over and over….you think she will learn to like them too??

Then maybe you could change your quote of the day !

    Sigh….reverse pyschology perhaps?
