The toddler party was not a disaster after all!
As much as it surprises me to admit it, the toddler’s little party went off without much of a hitch at all. There were no real meltdowns to speak of by anyone that was there - neither child nor adult. It even managed not to rain for the 2 hours of the party - which were about the only two hours it didn’t rain for the last 4 days. I claim it is because the Gods fear the wrath of Wife almost as much as I do.
It was even dry enough for the swingset to get a good workout, and luckily for me we had two grandfathers there so they were on swing monitor duty the entire time. This left me free to look after food preparation, and by food preparation I mean sneaking as much of the good stuff as possible and leaving the fruit platter for all the toddlers.
Speaking of which I apparently committed a faux pas at the party by putting out some lollies on a little plate on the food table. Apparently this is bad because some of the kids may eat a lolly and not the lovingly cut watermelon or what ever it is that their mums want them to have.
I think I will include on the invites next time that if you don’t want your kid to eat a certain type of food then you should actually watch them and stop them from doing it and not demanding that every one else should have to miss out because of your exacting standards. Some of us don’t care that much and aren’t quite so precious.
The same goes for everything at a gathering - in fact I am going to stick a sign out the front of our place that makes it absolutely clear that everything at our place is open slather - the food, the trampoline, the swings, even lollies - and that if you don’t want your precious child to partake in such things then you are responsible for stopping them. Just because you are at our house it doesn’t make it our responsibility to look after your kids.
Of course when I bring my kids to your house I plan to just let them off the leash the minute I arrive and then ignore everything they do while I sit in the corner and drink myself into oblivion - but that’s just the kind of guy I am.
End of vent.
Oh - and here is the aforementioned lovingly made cake, even I will admit it is quite the work of art - well done Wife (love ya)

GREAT looking cake ! Wifey saved you quite a bit there! Unless there was attempt after attempt? But from all your postings and hers…I reckon not!
Glad that it is over?
The cake is great! Did she use M&M’s to outline the butterfly?
Your vent made me laugh, mostly in horror that a parent would hold you responsible for their child consuming sugar at a birthday party! Crazy people.
They are actually smarties - which are just the Aussie version of M&M’s. Although we have M&M as well
Personally I like Smarties for the plain chocolate and M&M’s when there is a peanut involved
The cake is fabulous!
Glad all went well for the party. How many kids were there again? It must have been quite a circus. Anytime you have more than 4 kids together ti can be a circus.
