Of Mice and toddlers

Every time I see the toddler Little Miss around the baby Usurper I can’t help but think of George in ‘Of Mice and Me’ - the Steinbeck novel. (That is probably the only literary reference that is ever likely to appear in the this little blog about toddlers - and to be honest I don’t think I even finished reading the book).

See the toddler loves the baby so much that she wants to hug her, and squeeze her and pet her - until it can’t be good for her. The number of times we have wandered into discover Usurper in a headlock that a WWE wrestler would be proud of (does the Undertaker still wrestle?).

It is all going to end in tears, nothing could be surer than one day we are going to come in and find the baby in a figure 4 leg lock or some other submission hold.

Then one day the tables will be turned and Usurper will be attacking Little Miss and beating the crap out of her. I still remember the day my little brother almost managed to beat me in a fight - scared the crap out of me. Luckily I came up with the plan to declare fighting to be a sign of his immaturity - made him even angrier. Sure I could no longer physically pound him all the time - but I could still mentally torture him.

Ahhhhh the memories, I can’t wait until my kids are scaring each other emotionally ;)

You missed an absolute beauty this morning. What is the name for the ‘i have my little sister pinned on her back on top of my tummy with my arms wrapped around her neck whilst shrieking that she’s a cheeky baby in her ear’ hold?

Hmm looks like I have something (or some images) to look forward to!

Caitlin is also showing such similar interests in her baby brother, albeit he is only less than 2 months old.

But, like you, I doubt it will be long before younger brother is stronger than, in this case, older sister.

hopefully then the psycho-play will be practised by the sister… for the parents’ sanity sake.

Micah would hug his brother really hard around the neck, but of late Max has been fighting back, and actually made his brother cry on a few occasions. So Mommy has come to shouting, “No fighting!” quite often.

Sometimes when I am really frustrated I will tell them, “Go on fighting. See if both boys cry, ok? Is that a good idea?!” And immediately the fighting stops with Micah shouting, “No. No. No.” So reverse psychology works sometimes.
