Our toddler has a friend!

Little Miss, the toddler who rules the house, has made her first friend!!

I don’t mean that she has been a overcoat wearing loner until now, I’m sure that is coming in her teens though, it’s just that this friend is one she has made all by herself. She is not one of the groups of toddlers whose recent birthday parties we have had to suffer through whom have been playing together literally since they were a few weeks old. (There is another one this sunday, and then the following week is her new friends!). She is someone Little Miss met, started playing with and became friends with all by herself.

We didn’t even know of her existence until today, a fact that was not achieved through a lack of interest in the toddler’s life but simply because she comes from the toddlers world and not ours. We only found out about her existence when a note appeared in the toddler’s Wiggles backpack inviting her (and by extension us) to a party as according to the note the two young’uns where great buddies.

Apparently we had never met this strange interloper into our daughter’s life because her friend was generally picked up from daycare before Little Miss hence our paths had never crossed.

There was one minor hiccup though, when first asked if Anon (as I have decided to call her) was her friend, Little Miss had just looked up, said no, and gone back to tormenting the desperately trying to crawl baby. My heart sunk instantly as I panicked and thought that the note was meant for another Little Miss and my daughter did indeed just sit in a corner during her 2 days a week at day care eating bugs and being left out of all the toddler games.

So I ask again and was again informed that Anon wasn’t her friend, as Screamer (Little Miss’ longstanding companion) was her friend. Somehow she had decided that as she only had one Daddy, one Mummy, one sister, one Nanny, one Pa, one Poppy and one Nanna that you also therefore only had one friend.

My heart soared as I realised it wasn’t a note meant for another and that Little Miss had indeed made a friend!!!!

Now we just have to hope that the parents who we will be meeting at Anon’s birthday party in a fortnights time aren’t too annoying (because I know we aren’t ;) )

It’s really remarkable when the little ones just make a friend on their own. Micah has always been very forward and would seek out others to talk to or at the park would want to join the older kids in a race.

At one and a half he was chasing bigger kids at the mall with an extended hand saying “Shake hands. Shake hands.” The bigger kids mostly run from him. That was quite funny and a little embarrassing.

  2. wow - I wish our eldest was even half that outgoing. She is more the stand to the side and watch type, just like her old man. Although that may be changing
