Baby on the Move

Usurper has thrown the shackles of the motionless world off and has started to ‘crawl’ in her own special way. It’s special because when I say crawl in the context of our youngest I really mean drag yourself around using nothing but upper body strength, dragging your legs behind you as if they were nothing more than useless appendages.

Of course for rest of us in the house a crawling baby like Usurper means having to be more careful about what we do. We can’t just turn around and start walking before first looking down and making sure their isn’t a baby underfoot.

For Wife there will be no more leaving half drunk bottles of tequila open on the floor on the other side of the loungeroom, secure in the knowledge that as long is the toddler is distracted by Dora or at daycare then it is safe to drown her sorrows.

Never again shall I be able to leave my special cookies lying around after dark for fear that Usurper will now be able to drag herself across the floor and enjoy them and their goodness.

I’ll have to ensure from now on that my blades are sheathed, the chamber is left unloaded and snake is put back in it’s cage in the mornings.

That’s right, a clean living life for me - gotta protect me that baby!!!

Of course, we good just get a baby gate and lock it in it’s room. Yeah, that’s far easier :)

Just the other day I was thinking about Max coming to grasp with handling the doorknob. It’s a choice of their independence versus your control over the matter of time. Such are the equations problems of parents of growing babies.

Oh come on toddlerdaddy, you know my drink of choice is the good old gin (mothers little helper and all that). And that the TV show du jour is Playschool.

It’s also a good thing that Usurper enjoys playing with power cables too. She’ll learn….and we’ll also learn what additional childproofing is required. So far we know we need to do a lot more than we did for A.

PS Kathie-A has figured out both locks for doors and screen doors so we have to deadlock our back door if we want to be certain that she won’t be able to get out when i am otherwise occupied with E. There are great child proof covers for doorknobs available though.

Wife’s last blog post..Over and out there
