From baby to almost human

I have said it before and I will say it again, baby’s up until a certain age are a complete mystery. I love my own to death, but as a general rule of thumb they hold no real appeal. I think it is because they are about as interactive as watching grass grow as they generally just lie there doing not a great deal at all.

It is therefore with great pleasure I announce that our youngest Usurper is bordering on being at the developmental level whereby the two of us can start spending some real quality time with each other. She can now sit up, crawl, stand, and cruise the furniture looking for trouble. She holds things up and waves them around while screaming her joy at the event.

She has also started to play games like ‘I’ll drop it and then you can pick it up for me and we can do that again for HOURS!’, she bangs things together in time to songs, peek a boo is endlessly entertaining, and my personal favorite game hide and seek.

If you aren’t familiar with hide and seek baby style it involves you turning your back for 1 second to deal with the toddler only to turn back and discover that the baby has crawled off and can’t be found. In the end what generally gives their hiding place away is the wailing drifting from the inside of the dishwasher that they have somehow managed to not only open but crawl inside of!

So now I think that Usurper and I act actually beginning to bond, and not just when we are pacing the floor at 3:00am trying to go back to sleep but in good times as well. She even seems to smile when I get home from work, and I don’t think it is always wind.

Of course as with most things this will be a double edged sword. Now that she is getting to the stage where she is interacting properly and getting to know me as a person, it can only be a matter of time before she disowns me as a complete embarrassment!

Our 3-month old Caleb is only smiling, and only when lying on his back. If he is upright (carried looking over one’s shoulder), he’s a completely different person- wide eyed, mouth agape, drooling, nothing-will-amuse-me-anymore bewildered look….

I guess I still got some ways to go before I start missing these “peaceful” times, of at least not running around ensuring his physical safety!

oh…that must be super cool and super tiring as well!

As for disowning….has it happened with Little Miss yet? Heard they are disowning us at an earlier age this generation!

    Happy happy Father’s Day.

Times like these are best…and true, before they get too busy with their friends and school and have no time for you besides the ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’ and ‘I need money’!
