Questionable parentage?

I am not sure if it is the result of questionable parentage or just questionable parenting but I am quietly convinced that our two children are not actually sisters.

They are almost diametrically opposed when it comes to their personalities. The eldest is shy and reserved, cerebral in her approach to everything, and prone to emotional outbursts (I was going to call them hissyfits, but I think Wife has that phrase trademarked and she doesn’t like me enough to want to share). The eldest has never attempted anything until she has got it worked out, which has generally led her to starting some things like toilet training later than some of he cohorts, but conversely she tends to perfect things before them and with few setbacks.

Our baby (who turns 10 months today if my maths is correct - longer out than in now) is the complete opposite. Her life is nothing but an all guns blazing, storm the barracades, we’ll be back in time for tea and medals approach to things- or something like that. I have never known her to have a real tantrum in her short lifetime. Even when she wasn’t sleeping the only times she cried was when you tried to put her to bed, she was perfectly happy if you left her to play at 2am. She is also the one who crawls everywhere, explores everything, is already opening cupboards and drawers, and is determined to destroy as many tv’s, dvd players and gaming machines as possible.

Hell one has dark coloring, one is fair, one cried about bath time, the other cries when you take her out of the bath, one could not get enough solids, the other is non-plussed about the whole food thing, I can not think of anything that they have in common, well there is one thing - they are both determined to make my life hell, just in diametrically opposed ways.

I will freely admit that they got that bit from me….

My brother and I are like that. He is very hyperactive and I am extremely reserved. We compliment each other!

You know…my two are like that as well. One is blond, blue eyes, fair skin. The other has brown hair, hazel eyes, and olive color skin. One is independent and the other hangs on to my leg as I try to cook dinner. Their taste for food is totally different too. I could probably list 100 differences with them. Thanks for the enjoyable reading!

Sounds xactly like my sister and me!

She is a perfectionist, I am the carefree one!
She scored all As, I asked my parents what would they do to me if I failed!
She eats little and sleeps even less, I eat and sleep like a pig!

    You question? I also question….

..But…but…That’s where it’s baffling and fun at the same time!

Then you can do different things with either and both and know how to help them get to it. :)

Well done, Daddy. Knowing your kids well enough to know how to help them be better than they are is true parenting! Congrats, be-early, as it may seem. Just for this phase at least. :)
