We have been caught out as bad parents - BIG TIME.

Last night after the kidlets where in bed Wife and I decided to treat ourselves to some ice cream. After we had eaten all our yummy ice cream and were settled in watching our stories on the TV we could here some sobbing coming from Little Miss’ room.

Now given that it was Wife’s favorite piece of TV drama that was on telly it fell to me to go and comfort the little one - expecting the issue to be a sore head or bad dream or whatever.

After heading in to speak to her I couldn’t get her to tell me what was wrong, why she was so upset. I ran through a checklist of everything that was likely to be the cause, but all I could get from her was a stony stare and some sobs.

Eventually I discovered that she was a little sad and a little mad. It took quite some time to get her back off to sleep, and all we got out of her was that she was a little sad because Dad was going to work tomorrow and that’s no fun.

That answered the sad part of it, but not the mad part of the equation.

This morning she has confessed that she was mad because she heard me asking Wife if she wanted ice cream. To her mind ice cream = party, so she was convinced that Mum and Dad were having a party last night in the lounge room and she was missing out!

I think our denials may have fallen on deaf ears as well because when she came out for a cuddle when she was upset there were still some ice cream dishes sitting on the coffee table.

I just know we have now set ourselves up for a long week of Little Miss not settling because she is convinced that she will be missing out on all kinds of fun and games.

Ahh… so the Little Miss who is kinda shy in public loves parties!! Or is it just the goodies in a party?

Well, it must be a good inflation on your ego that she wants you home and that you are fun!! :)

Still, she will come to understand some thing called therapy eventually - i mean therapy needed by adults to keep sane and the kids happy.

Oh, the way kids associate things!!!

Maybe give her some ice cream on a quiet day to let her know sometimes ice cream is sometimes about being quiet too….which may not be all that fun after all!!!

But you going off to work….well, that is indeed a sad thought for a little girl!
